The Women in Law Award recognises outstanding women legal professionals who have made significant contributions to the legal field, whether through advocacy, litigation, legal innovation, or leadership in law firms, courts, academia, or public service. This award celebrates female legal trailblazers who have not only demonstrated legal excellence but have also worked to advance justice, equality, and mentorship within the legal profession.
ELIGIBILITY
Open to women-identifying professionals in the field of law
Must have at least 5 years of legal experience
Eligible professions include: solicitors, barristers, in-house counsel, legal academics, judges, public defenders, and legal policy experts
Must demonstrate an outstanding contribution to legal practice or reform
Judging Criteria
Legal Expertise: Demonstrated mastery and knowledge in her area of legal practice
Advocacy & Integrity: Commitment to justice, fairness, and ethical standards
Impact: Tangible influence on legal systems, clients, institutions, or legislation
Leadership & Mentorship: Leading teams or mentoring young legal professionals
QUALITATIVE CRITERIA
Involvement in high-impact or landmark cases
Publications or speaking engagements on legal issues
Advocacy for marginalised communities or legal reforms
Promotion of diversity and gender equality in law
METRICS
Number of cases handled or success rate
Number of mentees or protégés
Contributions to legal scholarship or reforms
Awards, recognitions, or appointments in legal committees
Impact reports or legal outcome summaries
ADDITIONAL CRITERIA
Must be currently practicing or teaching law (or within last 2 years)
Endorsements from clients, colleagues, or professional associations are encouraged
